Walla Walla Symphony Youth Orchestra Auditions
The Walla Walla Symphony Youth Orchestra (WWSYO), with conductor Dr. Paul Luongo, will be holding auditions for the 2017-18 season on Sunday, September 9 from 1 – 4:00 p.m. and Sunday, September 10 from 1 – 4:00pm in the Chism Hall of Music at Whitman College. Instrumental students (strings, winds, brass, and percussion) in grades 8 – 12 who participate in their school music programs are invited to audition.
Each audition is 5-7 minutes and students should prepare a 1-2 minute solo. Please note, all students must audition regardless of past participation with the WWSYO. To schedule an audition or for more information, call or email Nathanael Fleming at 509-529-8020 or email@example.com.
WWSYO is a full-symphonic ensemble and participation is free to all players. The ensemble presents several free public concerts during the season. Rehearsals take place on Mondays from 6:30 – 8pm in the Whitman College Music building with a day retreat on Sunday, September 17th.
Dr. Paul Luongo is an Assistant Professor of Music at Whitman College and director of the Whitman Orchestra. He has directed the WWSYO since 2014. Dr. Luongo’s undergraduate studies were in music education at Stetson University (B.M.E. 1998). At the Florida State University, he received degrees in conducting (M.M. 2006) and musicology (M.M. 2006), culminating in a Ph.D. in musicology (2010).
