Did you know?

  • Strauss finished the “September” movement of Four Last Songs in September of 1948. After that he never set pen to paper again.

  • The final movement of Symphony No. 4 was composed in 1892 as an independent song, “Das himmlische Leben” (“The Heavenly Life”). The rest of the symphony (composed between 1899 and 1901) was then based on this song.
